Description

Documented by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-0601 and DMR-014, this 1946 Washington Silver Quarter DDO-013 displays light spread on IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY, and the date — a broad obverse inscription doubling pattern where the hub displacement affected motto, legend, and date elements simultaneously, indicating a relatively straight-line offset between primary and secondary hub impressions. Three die stages document the working die's progression: Stage A in early die state (EDS), unconfirmed; Stage B in mid-die-state (MDS), also unconfirmed; and Stage C at late die state (LDS) where the obverse shows a die crack from BUS of PLURIBUS to the eagle's wing and a die crack running down the eagle's right wing to the Q of QUARTER. The Stage C die cracks are notable for extending across both the obverse inscription area and the reverse design, indicating advanced structural failure in both dies by the time this late state was reached.
