1943 Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

1943 WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 1943 Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A clockwise (CW) spread appears on LIBERTY, the lower queue, the date and IN GOD WE TRUST. On the obverse, a short scratch heads WNW off the I of LIBERTY, from its lower left, and another short scratch heads SW off the L, from its upper left. On the reverse, a scratch joins the top of the D in UNITED with the top of the first S in STATES, and a strong scratch runs from the middle of the R in QUARTER to the upper T. A crack descends the eagle's right wing, and another heads ENE off the back of the eagle's head. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 1-O-I. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
