Description

The 1943 DDO-005 is a doubled die obverse variety on the Philadelphia Mint Washington Quarter, cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-0291 with die-marriage reference DMR-006 and cross-referenced as FS-101. The obverse displays a strong spread on GOD, WE, and RUST of TRUST — bold doubling across the motto ranking among the more visually prominent doubled dies in the wartime Washington Quarter series. Three die stages document its progression. Stage A is the early die state (unconfirmed). Stage B shows both obverse and reverse in mid-die state. Stage C reveals significant fatigue: a die crack across the base of the bust, another through the forehead and upper hair, and a third down the eagle's right wing on the reverse — collectively indicating heavy late-die-state deterioration.
