Description

Bearing VarietyVista catalog designations UVC-116 and DMR-009, this 1942-D Lincoln Wheat Cent features a D/D repunched mintmark oriented to the southeast — the initial Denver mintmark impression landed slightly northwest of the intended position, and the corrective second punch left remnants of the first D visible at the southeast edges of the final letter. The southeast orientation comment (D/D Southeast) specifies the displacement vector, providing a directional diagnostic that distinguishes this variety from other 1942-D RPMs with different repunch angles. Die state documentation records Stage A with obverse and reverse in early die state, Stage B at mid-die-state for both faces, and Stage C at late die state remaining unconfirmed. The Lincoln Wheat Cent was struck at the Denver Mint in 1942, the last full year of standard bronze composition before the 1943 wartime transition to zinc-coated steel.
