1942 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-002

Description

1942-D WDDO-002 is a doubled die obverse on the 1942-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. LIBERTY shows a Class V clockwise (CW) spread from a pivot near 1:00, and the date spreads slightly toward the center. Obverse: two parallel north-south scratches right of the bowtie; one die clash beside the front of the throat, on its right, and another left of the back of the neck; and a gouge at the rim above GOD's O. Reverse: a small dot inside the top of CENT's C, and a short gouge heading NNE from the upper right of AMERICA's second A. James C. Moreland submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 2-O-V and Crawford as CDDO-001; the Coppercoins number is 1942D-1DO-001. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
