1942 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-005

Description

1942-D WDDO-005 is a doubled die obverse on the 1942-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. GOD, WE, and TRUST show a close spread, and the right edges of the date's 4 and 2 show very light separation. Obverse: a gouge at the edge of the hair below GOD's O; a tiny gouge right of the top of LIBERTY's T; and a small gouge along the bust's truncation, right of the VDB initials. On the reverse: a long crack heading NW from the upper left edge of ONE's E and ending near PLURIBUS' U; an area of die deterioration NW of CENT's C; a dot inside the opening of that C; and a gouge right of the upper right wheat tip. Bill Wilson submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 4-O-II-C.
