Description

1942-D WDDO-004 is a doubled die obverse on the 1942-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The die is tripled, with doubled areas below LIBERTY's L, left of the I in IN, and on both T's of TRUST. Obverse: faded scratches under TRUST's TR; a light scratch joining the bottom of the date's 1 with the 9's outer curve; a light scratch running south from the 1; a diagonal scratch in the field left of the mint mark; concentric scratches in the field NW of the 1; a gouge behind the lapel, left of the buttonhole; and a vertical scratch rising north from LIBERTY's R. Reverse: vertical scratches through the top of CENT's T; a series of vertical scratches joining the bottom of that T with the second T of STATES; vertical scratches through UNITED's D and the first S of STATES; and a series of mostly vertical scratches through AMERICA's C and A. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 5-O-I-CW+VIII; the Coppercoins number is 1942D-1DO-002.
