1942 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-005

Description

1942-D WRPM-005 is a repunched mint mark on the 1942-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as D/D Southeast, with the secondary D southeast of the primary. On the Stage A obverse, parallel SW-to-NE scratches lie between IN and GOD, and a scratch heads ESE from the bottom of GOD's G. On Stage B a gouge (dot) appears below LIBERTY's B and the scratches between IN and GOD can no longer be seen. The Stage A reverse has a short gouge rising north from the top left of UNITED's D; a wavy scratch over the right wheat stem that runs nearly, but not exactly, parallel to it; and many north-south scratches across the reverse. Stage B is the same as Stage A. John Bordner submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as RPM #5; the Coppercoins number is 1942D-1MM-005. Brian Ribar took the die marker photos for the Wexler RPM Files. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
