1942 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-003

Description

1942-D WRPM-003 is a repunched mint mark on the 1942-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as D/D South, with the secondary D south of the primary. Obverse Stage A: a nearly vertical scratch near the rim below LIBERTY's L; a short scratch heading NE from the top left of its Y; a long NNE-to-SSW scratch south of the Y, just left of the upper shoulder; and die pitting on the neck and the back of the collar. On Stage B a crack crosses the hair above the ear from WSW to ENE and enters the upper forehead, crossing the front curl of hair above the forehead and continuing into the field, and another crack runs SW from the bottom of the 9 to the front of the vest. Stage A uses the first reverse, with a small dot between the bottom of UNITED's D and the first S of STATES, and a light vertical scratch between the bottom of AMERICA's I and the right wheat stem. Stage B uses a second reverse, with a curving scratch through the bottom of IBU in PLURIBUS, a scratch heading NE from the top of AMERICA's I, and an east-west scratch beneath the crossbar of CENT's T, on its left side.
