1942-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-012

Description

A southeast-direction D/D repunched mintmark identifies RPM-012 for the 1942-D Lincoln Wheat Cent, documented across three die stages under catalogue numbers UVC-1193 and DMR-014. Stage A is the early die state; Stage B introduces a light die crack over V.D.B. as a mid die state obverse marker, paired with a mid die state reverse; Stage C is a late die state (unconfirmed). The 1942-D Lincoln Wheat Cent was struck in bronze — 95% copper, 5% tin and zinc — at the Denver Mint under Victor David Brenner's design. Southeast-direction repunched mintmarks on Denver issues result from the initial D punch being applied too far in the southeast direction before correction, leaving a displaced secondary impression below and to the right of the final mintmark position. The three-stage die-state documentation allows collectors to identify and sequence examples by die wear, with the Stage B die-crack-over-VDB marker providing the clearest intermediate attribution point.
