Description

Carrying attribution codes UVC-118 and DMR-011, this 1942-D Lincoln Wheat Cent repunched mintmark documents a distinct D-over-D die for this date. Three die stages are recorded. Stage A: both obverse and reverse in early die state. Stage B: both dies in middle die state — an unusual confirmation of contemporaneous aging on both sides, suggesting they wore at a comparable rate. Stage C, the late die state: the upper serif of the secondary mintmark impression shows to the west — a leftward displacement that identifies this specific RPM among multiple known for 1942-D. The reverse is also in late die state at Stage C.
