1942-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-002

Description

Cross-referenced as Fivaz-Stanton FS-502, this VarietyVista-documented 1942-D Lincoln Wheat Cent shows a D/D North displacement actively sought by Cherrypickers' Guide users. Die markers UVC-110 / DMR-003 track four stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with medium secondary mintmark at MDS and a light die crack through URI of PLURIBUS at MDS; Stage C with weak secondary mintmark at LDS and medium die crack through URI of PLURIBUS at LDS; Stage D with very weak secondary mintmark at VLDS and reverse at VLDS. The die crack through URI of PLURIBUS intensifies from light to medium as the secondary mintmark simultaneously weakens, documenting concurrent die degradation. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the 1942-D was struck at Denver during the early U.S. involvement in World War II.
