1942 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-002 / RPM-002

Description

Cross-referenced as Fivaz-Stanton FS-502, RPM-002, which Wexler numbers WRPM-002, is a 1942-D Lincoln wheat cent with a D/D North repunched mintmark, documented by VarietyVista and by Wexler. Wexler writes the Cherrypickers number FS-01-1942D-502 (018.91). Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties follows three stages. Obverse stage A has a scratch that follows the rim, lying between the S and T of TRUST; stage B shows two small gouges, like dots, under the bowtie; and stage C is the same as B. Reverse stage A has an NNW-SSE scratch beside the lower part of the C in AMERICA, on its right, a curved SSW-NNE scratch above and between the E and D of UNITED, and light north-south scratches between the S and T of STATES. Reverse stage B, on a circulated coin, showed nothing, and reverse stage C has a scratch through the tops of the URI in PLURIBUS. John A. Wexler submitted stage A and John Bordner stages B and C. CONECA lists it as RPM #2 and Coppercoins as 1942D-1MM-002. Wexler notes that Brian Ribar took the photos for the Wexler RPM Files. VarietyVista, without naming a reporter, describes D/D North under its marker codes UVC-110 and DMR-003. An early stage A is unconfirmed. Stage B has a medium secondary mintmark and a light crack through the URI of PLURIBUS, both in a middle die state; stage C a weak secondary mintmark and a medium crack through the URI, both late; and stage D a very weak secondary mintmark with both sides in a very late die state.
