Description
Documented by VarietyVista, this 1941-S Washington Silver Quarter from the San Francisco Mint developed catastrophic die cracking at Stage C across both obverse and reverse. Die markers UVC-0218 / DMR-014: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C with a die crack on wing under AMER of AMERICA at LDS, a die crack from the eagle's right wing to Q of QUARTER, a die gouge through the left wreath to the mintmark, a die crack across bust at LDS, and a die crack across hair. The five Stage C markers, spanning the eagle reverse and Washington's portrait, document terminal-level structural failure. Designed by John Flanagan, struck in 90% silver and 10% copper at 6.25 grams and 24.3 mm, the 1941-S was the last pre-war San Francisco quarter, produced in the final full year before Pearl Harbor reshaped American coinage priorities.
