1941 (S) Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001
Error
Description
1941-S WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 1941-S Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. The ERTY of LIBERTY shows a very close counterclockwise (CCW) spread. On the obverse, a short gouge sticks out of the R in LIBERTY on its left side. The reverse is itself a doubled die, listed in the Wexler files as 1941-S WDDR-001: strong extra thickness shows on the eagle's head, on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, QUARTER DOLLAR and E PLURIBUS UNUM, and on the branch ends and lower leaves. A crack on that reverse descends the eagle's right wing as far as the Q in QUARTER. Whaden Curtis submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
