Description

This 1941-D DDO-001 Lincoln Wheat cent exhibits a light spread on IN GOD WE TRUST, a subtle doubled die obverse variety struck at the Denver Mint during the final year before America's entry into World War II. The coin is composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc, weighing 3.11 grams with a 19 mm diameter, the standard bronze alloy that would be temporarily replaced by zinc-coated steel in 1943. Tracked under Universal Variety Code UVC-1500 and Die Marker Reference DMR-010, this die progresses through multiple documented states: Stage A at early die state (unconfirmed); Stage B at mid die state showing a light die crack running east-west across the middle of the shoulder and vest, with the reverse at early die state; and Stage C at late die state (unconfirmed). The light spread on the motto requires careful examination under magnification, as Class II distorted hub doubling of this magnitude can be easily overlooked.
