1941 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-005

Description

1941-D WDDO-005 is a doubled die obverse on the 1941-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the date show Class VI doubling, and the bottom of TRUST's R is notched. Obverse Stage A has a series of vertical scratches through LIBERTY and a vertical scratch through the tip of the nose. On Stage B the LIBERTY scratches are extremely weak, and a crack leaves the rim at 6 o'clock and reaches the lower bust. On the Stage A reverse a crack reaches the rim at 4 o'clock, SE of STATES' last S. Stage B uses a different reverse die, with a diagonal scratch inside the lower opening of CENT's C, vertical scratches through its E and on both sides of its T, and many vertical scratches through most of the letters of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. John Shields submitted Stages A and B. CONECA lists it as 3-O-VI; the Coppercoins number is 1941D-1DO-002. Wexler notes this listing replaces the original one, which proved to be a higher-grade example of 1941-D 1¢ WDDO-001.
