Description

Eleventh documented doubled die obverse for the 1940 Denver Mint Washington Quarter, this variety exhibits light spread on BERTY of LIBERTY and very light spread on WE of IN GOD WE TRUST. Cataloged by VarietyVista under die marker codes UVC-0139 and DMR-012, the doubling concentrates on the right portion of LIBERTY rather than the full inscription, suggesting the hub shift affected some letters more visibly than others. In Stage B, the obverse shows middle die state characteristics while a light die crack develops from the S of PLURIBUS extending to the wing on the reverse, providing a useful die state marker.
