1940 (D) Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-002
Error
Description
1940-D WDDO-002 is a doubled die obverse on the 1940-D Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A close spread toward the center shows on the bottom of the ribbon, the date and IN GOD WE TRUST. Wexler notes no obverse markers. The reverse is a repunched mint mark variety, a D/D South (the extra D lies south), which the Wexler RPM files list as 1940-D WRPM-001. On that reverse an E/W crack crosses the RIBUS of PLURIBUS, then turns downward and follows the eagle's left wing. L & C Coins submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 2-O-II.
