1940 (D) Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-004

Description

1940-D WDDO-004 is a doubled die obverse on the 1940-D Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling spreads north on IN GOD WE TRUST. Wexler also reports possible doubling on the 4, at the right end of the underside of its horizontal crossbar. On the obverse, a cluster of short scratches lies left of Washington's nose, and over the D of GOD there are two short parallel scratches. On the reverse, a scratch extends northeast off the second L in DOLLAR from its center right side, and another extends northeast from the leaves left of the arrow tips. Tony Russo submitted the variety. Crawford lists it as CDDO-001.
