1939 (S) Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-005

Description

1939-S WDDO-005 is a doubled die obverse on the 1939-S Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A clockwise (CW) spread pivoting from about 12:00 shows on the designer's initials, the date and the lower ribbon, and slightly on IN GOD WE TRUST. On the obverse, two scratches head SSE from the lower right of the E in WE, and between the lower parts of the L and I in LIBERTY there is a short SW/NE scratch. On the reverse, a crack lies between the D in DOLLAR and the lower R in QUARTER. Whaden Curtis submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
