1939 (S) Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

1939-S WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 1939-S Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A clockwise (CW) spread pivoting from about 11:00 shows on IN GOD WE TRUST, the ERTY of LIBERTY, the date, the queue and the ribbon. On the obverse, a short scratch heads east from the bottom of the upper loop of the R in LIBERTY, and a scratch joins the lower legs of that R. A crack runs east from the top of the forehead into the hair, and another crack crosses the upper left of the date's 1, continues over the base of the bust and enters the queue. On the reverse, a crack heads east through the upper RIBUS of PLURIBUS, then continues down the eagle's left wing to end under the R in AMERICA. Another crack runs down the right wing, and a short crack lies on the branch over the OL in DOLLAR. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 1-O-V.
