1939 (S) Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-003

Description

1939-S WDDO-003 is a doubled die obverse on the 1939-S Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A very close clockwise (CW) spread pivoting from about 12:00 shows on the designer's initials, the date and the bottom of the ribbon, and slightly on IN GOD WE TRUST. On the obverse, right of the 1 in the date there is a small gouge. Scratches head east off the L in LIBERTY, from its right side, a scratch runs west off the top left of the I, and more scratches head east from the lower right of the E. Wexler notes no reverse markers. Frank Baumann submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. The photos were taken for the Wexler Files by Billy G. Crawford.
