1936-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-002

Description

Recorded by VarietyVista, the RPM-002 for the 1936-D Lincoln Wheat Cent tracks secondary mintmark visibility across three die states. Die markers: UVC-052, DMR-004. Stage A: EDS (unconfirmed). Stage B: Medium secondary mintmark — MDS; reverse is MDS. Stage C: Weak secondary mintmark — LDS; reverse is LDS. The diminishing secondary D from medium to weak illustrates how metal flow under striking pressure gradually flattens the remnant of the initial misplaced punch contact. Struck at the Denver Mint in 1936, composed of 95% copper, 5% tin/zinc (3.11 g, 19.05 mm). Brenner's obverse portrait and wheat ears reverse were in their 27th production year, and Denver's manual mintmark application process generated numerous RPM varieties during this pre-war era.
