1936 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-002

Description

1936-D WDDR-002 is a doubled die reverse on the 1936-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The letters of EPU (E PLURIBUS UNUM), the dots, both upper wheat ears, and both stems show strong extra thickness. Obverse: two short parallel scratches head NNE off the top of LIBERTY's T; a very short scratch runs north from the Y of LIBERTY at its top right; a long crack starts above the designer's initials and crosses roughly two-thirds of the bust's base; and a small gouge (dot) lies just right of the mint mark. On the reverse, a pair of parallel scratches runs south off the N of ONE, from its left vertical bar; two more run SSE from the second U of PLURIBUS; a scratch runs NNW off the top of the E in ONE, and another, running SSE, links that E's center and lower horizontal bars; and two scratches run SSE from beneath the T of CENT's horizontal bar. John Miller submitted the variety, and Tony Russo upgraded it. CONECA lists it as 2-R-II-C+VI.
