Sole currently documented retained cud on the reverse of a 1936 Denver Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent, RCD-1c-1936D-01R was cataloged by Cuds on Coins with a cross-reference to JCc-1936D_052 and a documentation date of December 4, 2023. The single-digit sequence number (-01R) indicates this is the sole reverse retained cud identified for the 1936-D date to date, though additional discoveries remain possible as collectors continue examining this Depression-era issue. A retained cud preserves a die rim fracture where the broken section stayed attached during continued production — the struck coin displays a raised, distorted area at the rim that retains partial design detail rather than the featureless mass of a full cud.
