Description

Exhibiting an uncommon triple-punched mint mark classified D/D/D South, East, this 1934-D Lincoln Wheat Cent RPM-006 documents an instance where the Denver die setter applied the D punch three separate times. Triple-punched mint marks are significantly less common than typical double-punch varieties, recording three distinct impressions — each at a slightly different position, with the final two displaced south and east of the intended location. Cataloged by VarietyVista with UVC-3383 and DMR-013, three die stages are tracked: Stage A shows the obverse at early die state with the reverse at late die state, Stage B at mid-die state is unconfirmed, and Stage C at late die state also unconfirmed. The 1934-D was struck during the Great Depression in bronze of 95% copper with 5% tin and zinc. Depression-era cents from Denver carry moderate collector interest, and a triple-punched mint mark on any date represents an above-average find for RPM specialists. The three overlapping D impressions create a more complex visual pattern than standard D/D varieties, making this a rewarding coin to examine under magnification.
