Description
Second cataloged reverse pre-cud for the 1934-D Lincoln Wheat Cent, PC-1c-1934D-02R documents a Denver Mint die that developed a rim-area crack isolating a fragment of the reverse die face without that fragment separating. Pre-cuds form when accumulated striking stress concentrates along a line from the rim inward, creating a fracture boundary that traces the future shape of a potential full cud. If the die had stayed in service and the crack progressed, coins with a complete cud (a raised blank lump where the fragment fell out) might have followed in the production sequence. The "02R" designation indicates this is the second documented example on the reverse for the 1934-D date. Bronze composition, 95% copper. Cataloged and verified by Cuds on Coins.
