1934 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-004 / RPM-004

Description

The 1934-D Lincoln wheat cent RPM-004, which Wexler numbers WRPM-004, carries the Cherrypickers designation FS-504 (Wexler writes FS-01-1934D-504 (013.8)) and has a D/D North repunched mintmark in both catalogs. Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties, crediting Lloyd Hanson as submitter, lists two stages. Obverse stage A shows semicircular scratches running from behind the head toward the jacket, a group of scratches in the small open space behind the neck, scratches running SSE from the right center of the Y in LIBERTY (one of them reaching the jacket), north-south scratches inside the B and left of the I in LIBERTY, and southeast scratches at the bridge of the nose; in stage B those markers are still there but fainter. Reverse stage A has a very light north-south crack along the lower right wheat grains; in reverse stage B that crack is longer, and a light north-south crack also appears on the upper left grains. CONECA lists it as RPM #4 and Coppercoins as 1934D-1MM-004. VarietyVista, with no reporter named, uses its marker codes UVC-043 and DMR-008. Its early stage A is unconfirmed. In stage B the obverse is in a late-middle die state and a crack in the lower right wheat grains is in a late one. Stage C adds an obverse rim die break from the 4 o'clock to the 9 o'clock position, late die state, with the reverse also late.
