1930 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-001

Description

1930-D WRPM-001 is a repunched mint mark on the 1930-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as D/D North, with the secondary D north of the primary. Obverse Stage A: short scratches north of the 0 in the date; a light, longer NNE/SSW scratch left of the lower tail of the 9; and a short north-south gouge in the hair SW of the W in WE. On Stage B the date markers have been abraded away while the hair gouge remains. Stage C adds an east-west crack across the jacket, well above the designer's initials, and the hair gouge, now lighter, is still there. Reverse Stage A has a light scratch running NNW from the upper right of the M in AMERICA to the D of UNITED, continuing out through the lower left of the D's vertical bar. Stage B adds a crack that leaves the rim at 2:45 heading SW to the wheat grains, then along their outer edge. Stage C uses a new reverse die, marked by a gouge above the first T of STATES, a little right of center. Lloyd Hanson submitted Stage A (upgraded by John Bordner) and Stage B, and Brian Allen Stage C. CONECA lists it as RPM #1; the Coppercoins number is 1930D-1MM-001. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
