1930 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

1930-D WDDR-001 is a doubled die reverse on the 1930-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Class VI extra thickness shows on E PLURIBUS UNUM (EPU), the dots and the wheat ears and stems on both sides, plus slightly on USA. Across the reverse, the spread of all the doubling widens from left to right. Obverse Stage A: several NW-to-SE scratches across the neck and beard at their center, SSE of the earlobe; a north-south scratch right of the earlobe; and abrasion spikes rising toward the rim from the tops of most letters of IGWT (IN GOD WE TRUST). Stage B keeps these markers and adds a west-east crack across the bust, higher than the designer's initials (V.D.B.). On Reverse Stage A there is a light scratch running SSE from UNITED's N, at its left leg, through the O of OF, and a light crack along the right side of the T's vertical bar in CENT. On Reverse Stage B the scratch remains but is much weaker, the crack on the T is heavily chipped, chips and small cracks mark the T's vertical bar on its left side, and a crack appears on the right side of its horizontal bar.
