1930 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-002 / RPM-002

Description

Cataloged as RPM-002 by VarietyVista and as WRPM-002 by Wexler, this 1930-D Lincoln wheat cent has a D/D North repunched mintmark, with the secondary D showing above the primary punch. Both catalogs give the Cherrypickers number FS-502 (Wexler writes it FS-01-1930D-502 (013.7)). Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties follows three obverse and three reverse stages. On obverse stage A, submitted by Doug Yost, what remains of a complete secondary curve sits above the main mint mark; on obverse stage B, from Lloyd Hanson, only part of that curve is left. Both of those were circulated pieces, and Wexler saw no other markers on them, and none on reverse stages A and B. Obverse stage C, submitted by John Bordner (with newer photos taken of a coin from Keith Christenson), adds a small gouge (dot) over the B in LIBERTY, toward its left side, a gouge at the left center of the G in GOD, a dot left of the lower part of the R in TRUST, and a light crack that leaves the rim, passes over V.D.B. and goes back to the rim. Reverse stage C shows a gouge right of center on the S in PLURIBUS, a chip on the right end of the crossbar of the T in CENT, and a crack along the lower right edge of that T. CONECA lists it as RPM #2 and Coppercoins as 1930D-1MM-002. VarietyVista, which does not name a reporter, records D/D North under its marker codes UVC-028 and DMR-003 in three stages. Stage A has a strong secondary mintmark with both sides in an early die state; stage B a medium one with both sides in a middle die state; and stage C a weak one in a late die state, with a light crack over V.D.B. and light chips on the stem of the T in CENT.
