Dated the year of the stock market crash that ended the Roaring Twenties, CU-1C-1929S-01R is the first cataloged rim cud on the 1929 San Francisco Lincoln Wheat cent. October 1929's financial collapse would reshape American economic life for a decade, but coins struck earlier that year carry no hint of the upheaval ahead — products of a mint facility still operating under pre-Depression norms. The S mintmark below the date identifies San Francisco's output, and 01R marks this as the first verified rim cud for the date. Wheat cents from 1929 occupy a transitional position in numismatic history: struck during prosperity but circulated through the Depression that followed, often remaining in active use far longer than coins from more prosperous eras because replacement coinage was scarce during the early 1930s.
