1929 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

1929-S WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 1929-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The tops of the 1 and 9 in the date spread to the SSE. Some minor doubling on IGWT (IN GOD WE TRUST) and LIBERTY is master die doubling. The mint mark is repunched, an S/S East that the Wexler RPM Files catalog as 1929-S 1¢ WRPM-003. Other obverse markers: a short west-east crack low inside the R of TRUST; two short scratches extending north from the top of the L's horizontal bar in LIBERTY; a scratch running NW from the upper left of the first 9 to touch the upper right tip of the 1; two parallel NW-to-SE scratches below the mint mark; two parallel scratches running NW from the upper left of the 2; and two parallel scratches running SW from the 1, one from the upper and one from the lower part of its left side. Reverse: a crack runs SSE from the right wheat ear to the rim near 4:00. Lloyd Hanson submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 1-0-IV+VIII; the Coppercoins numbers are 1929S-1DO-001 and 1MM-005.
