Description

Holding the primary catalog position for the 1925-S date and cross-referenced as Fivaz-Stanton FS-501, this VarietyVista-documented Buffalo Nickel displays an S/S East repunched mintmark from the San Francisco Mint. Specimens are sought for new color, high-magnification digital photographs. Die markers UVC-067 / DMR-002 track three stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS with a die chip in the upper loop of the mintmark and obverse at MDS; Stage C with reverse and obverse at LDS. The die chip within the mintmark itself creates a distinctive attribution point that alters the S's upper loop profile. James Earle Fraser's design was struck in 75% copper and 25% nickel at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm. The FS-501 listing confirms this as an actively sought Cherrypickers' Guide variety for the series.
