1925 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-001

Description

Holding the primary WRPM-001 designation, this 1925-D Lincoln Wheat Cent documents the most prominent repunched mintmark variety for the date — the first cataloged RPM and the benchmark against which all subsequent 1925-D repunched mintmark discoveries are compared. During the 1920s, each Denver Mint working die received its D mintmark through individual hand-punching: an engraver positioned a small steel letter punch bearing the D on the reverse die face and struck it with a mallet. When the initial impression landed slightly off the intended position, a corrective second blow was required, and the overlapping D images from the two impressions created the repunched mintmark that collectors seek today. Cross-referenced as Coppercoins 1925D-1MM-001, this variety carries secondary attribution that aids collectors and dealers working from the Coppercoins reference system alongside the Wexler catalog. The 1925-D cent was struck in modest quantities compared to its Philadelphia counterpart, and any attributable die variety on a lower-mintage Denver issue of this era attracts collector attention from both the variety and date-collecting communities.
