Description

This 1925 (D) Lincoln Wheat cent displays three small rim cuds on the obverse, positioned counterclockwise of 3:00. Multiple discrete breaks along a short arc of the same rim record a die that was failing at several adjacent points rather than losing one continuous section. Each small rim cud marks a separate place where the die lost part of its rim gutter, and the intact rim between them shows where the gutter survived. The clustering of three breaks in a single quadrant marks the obverse die as heavily fatigued at the time these coins were struck.
