1911 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-001 / RPM-001

Description

The 1911-S WRPM-001, which VarietyVista numbers RPM-001, is an S/S West repunched mintmark on the Lincoln wheat cent, listed in the Cherrypickers' Guide as FS-01-1911S-501 (012.85), by CONECA as RPM #1 and by Coppercoins as 1911S-1MM-001. VarietyVista gives the Cherrypickers number as FS-501. Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties records NW/SE die scratches inside the 9 of the date in obverse stage A, weaker in stage B, and a die scratch under the beard in stage C. In reverse stage A a die crack reaches the right wheat ear from the rim at 4:00. In stage B it runs along the right edge of that wheat ear and exits at 2:45, where a chip has formed at the ear. Stage C is a new reverse die, with three light cracks reaching the wheat ear from the rim at 2:00, at 3:00 and at 4:30. Paul Funaiole submitted stage A, Doug Yost stage B and Lloyd Hanson stage C. VarietyVista, which does not name a reporter, also records S/S West. Under marker codes UVC-006 and DMR-002, stage A, an early die state, is unconfirmed; in stage B the obverse is early-middle and a die crack runs from the lower right wheat to the rim, in a late state; in stage C the obverse is middle and a die chip lies outside the middle of the right wheat, late. Under UVC-1145 and DMR-004, stage D has the obverse late-middle and a changed reverse die in a middle state, with a light die crack from the middle right wheat to the rim and a very light one from the upper right wheat to the rim.
