1911-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-002
Error
Description
An S/S West variety from the San Francisco Mint, this VarietyVista-documented early Lincoln Wheat Cent features a reverse die change mid-production documented through the die marker system. Die markers span two pairings: UVC-3505 / DMR-005 covers Stage A with obverse and reverse at EDS and Stage B with obverse at EMDS and a light die crack from the right wheat to rim at K-3:30 at EMDS. Then UVC-1126 / DMR-003 covers Stage C with obverse at MDS, reverse die changed at MDS, and a light die crack from the lower right wheat to rim at K-3:00. Stage D is LDS (unconfirmed). The similar but distinct wheat-to-rim cracks on two different reverse dies is a notable coincidence. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the 1911-S was struck only three years into the Lincoln Cent series, when Brenner's design was still fresh.
