1910-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-003

Description

Bearing a historically significant Inverted S/Inverted S East repunched mintmark, this VarietyVista-documented 1910-S Lincoln Wheat Cent is the only known uncorrected inverted RPM on a Lincoln Cent. A re-evaluation determined the primary mintmark is inverted, with the underlying secondary mintmark also inverted, meaning the San Francisco die maker applied the S punch upside-down twice without correction. Die markers UVC-1122 / DMR-005: Stage A with strong die clash at throat and behind neck at EDS, light die scratch curving above the left side of D of GOD, and die clash showing at lower C of CENT at EMDS; Stage B with very weak die clash at throat and behind neck at EDS and no die clash at lower C of CENT at EMDS; Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The clash attenuation between Stages A and B suggests die resurfacing or polishing that reduced but did not eliminate the clash marks. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, from the second year of the Lincoln Cent series.
