1909-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-001

Description

Cross-referenced as FS-1501, this VarietyVista-documented RPM holds the primary catalog position for the key-date 1909-S Lincoln Wheat Cent — the inaugural year of Brenner's design at the San Francisco Mint. S/S Northeast displacement. Die markers UVC-001 / DMR-003: Stage A with light die scratches in the mintmark area at EDS and reverse at EDS; Stage B with a light die clash from N of CENT at throat at EMDS and reverse at EMDS; Stage C with the die clash worn away at MDS and reverse at MDS; Stage D at LDS (unconfirmed). The throat die clash appearance and subsequent erasure documents a clash event followed by continued striking that gradually flattened the transferred design. Struck in 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the 1909-S had a limited mintage of approximately 1.825 million, making RPM-001 inherently scarce.
