Description
=1887-P VAM-1D Spiked Bottom of Left Wing= Discovered by C. Logan McKechnie December 2004. 1D III2 1 · C3a (Spiked Bottom of Left Wing) ( ? ) Reverse C3a – Short horizontal die gouge spike from bottom of eagle’s left wing. DPIS - ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # 1887-P VAM-1D may appear to have a misplaced date (MPD) in the denticles, but review of an early die state coin has shown that this is not the case. # Very late die stages do not have the spike at wing due to die wear. These also show a doubled ear on the right inside, again due to die erosion. # 1887-P VAM-1D VLDS (No tail) is usually attributed as only 1887-P VAM-1 by the grading services (technically it falls back to 1887-P VAM-1!), but remember tditd.
