1887 Morgan Dollar - Atypical Die Clash ADC-100c-1887-01 LDS

Description

ADC-100c-1887-01 LDS is an atypical die clash on an 1887 Morgan dollar in a late die state, cataloged by Mad Die Clashes. The obverse shows two clashes: the wreath at Liberty's mouth, the eagle's wing at her throat, the T from TRUST below her hair, and more wreath detail behind her cap. The reverse marks are weaker but match these. The die is also listed as VAM-3A. MDC lists an EMDS/MDS example of the same die with a single clash, and according to VamWorld the earlier die states have one clash with more detail, such as the N from IN on the obverse and the designer's initial M on the reverse. VAM 3 has a repunched 1 (below) and a repunched 7 (above), and its key marker is a long die gouge in the eagle's wing. MDC first listed this die earlier and has since updated it as LDS, with photos of the T from TRUST, the repunched digits, the gouge, the whole coin and an overlay.
