1887 Morgan Dollar - Repunched Date WRPD-001

Description

1887 WRPD-001 is a repunched date on the 1887 Morgan dollar, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler writes it as 1887/18-7. The 1 and the first 8 (weakly) are repunched low, south of the primary digits, and the 7 is repunched high, north of the primary digit. The obverse also carries WMPD-001, a misplaced numeral below the 7. E/W scratches link the wheat grains on the bonnet, and a die chip sits at the left center of the first 8. On the reverse, a die chip is centered under the eagle's breast feathers, and a WNW/ESE scratch near the perch runs through the talon to the eagle's left-side wing. Tony Russo submitted the variety. Its VAM number is #11.
