Description

1887-P VAM-15 — Doubled Stars and RIB. Re-instated 2010 following rediscovery in May 2010. Obverse III2 15: the first three right-side stars are doubled on their lower right; letters RIB of E PLURIBUS are doubled to the north. Reverse C3a (normal die) with a die gouge near the upper right O of DOLLAR. The re-instatement history of VAM-15 reflects the ongoing revision of the VAMWorld census: the variety was previously delisted and subsequently restored to active status following fresh discovery documentation in 2010. Doubled stars are a striking diagnostic — three consecutive right-side stars showing lower-right doubling form a systematic pattern consistent with hub-doubling at a slight offset. The RIB doubling to the north on the reverse further extends the variety's visible diagnostics across two design areas. The obverse is classified LVA III2 — identified with three or more other die varieties. Morgan Dollars were struck in 90% silver, 10% copper.
