1879-S VAM-102 Discovery June 2017 102 III2 53 - C3y (Doubled 79 & Cap Top, High S, Engraved Wreath Leaves, Die Chip Wing Tip) (185) Obverse III2 53 - Slightly doubled 79 with 7 at very top and 9 at left outside of both loops. Slightly doubled Phyrigian cap top. Touch of doubling on nose bridge edge. Die marker - Diagonal polishing line at very front of Liberty head mouth opening. Reverse C3y– Same reverse as 1879-S VAM-29, 1879-S VAM-99, 1879-S VAM-100 & 1879-S VAM-101, but earliest die state with only one die chip at tip of eagle's left wing. Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: 1879-S VAM-144, 1879-S VAM-171, 1879-S VAM-102 (EDS), 1879-S VAM-102 (LDS), 1879-S VAM-99 (EDS), 1879-S VAM-99 (LDS), 1879-S VAM-29, 1879-S VAM-100, 1879-S VAM-101 Comments: this variety is known with one die chip only on left wing (viewers right) and is also known without any chips at wings
