Description
=1878-S VAM-10 Doubled Motto= May have been discovered by Charles Wallace 1966, revised 2016 by "78-SLongnock" 10 II 8 - B2bk (Engraved Wing Feather, S Set Left, Doubled Motto & Ear,Spike Eye) Obverse II 8 - PLURIB doubled with LU doubled at the top and RIB doubled at bottom. UN doubled at bottom and right U in UNUM doubled at top left. Upper wheat leaves doubled on right side. Two short spikes below eyelid. Ear slightly doubled at right outside. Point of fourth right star not broken. Two curved lines at lower inside of ear. (Also VAMs 65, 100, 109) Reverse B2bk - Feather engraved between eagle’s right wing and leg. Small III S mint mark set left and slightly high. R in Trust slightly weak. Die marker - Diagonal Polishing lines in opposite directions inside wreath bow. DPIS – In 1878 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: 109, 100, 65, & 10 :Reverse: Comments: LVA Comments: # Per Leroy Van Allen - 1878 S VAM-10 "Has II 8 obv w/ weak spikes at eye front top & 2 chips at bottom w/ polished eye front of VAM-10. Reverse has type III S M/M set left. Trust has slightly weak upper arm of r w/ depressed tiny hole. However, has unlisted eng. wing feather that doesn't match any listed, So revisted VAM 10 description to include eng. wing feather & reinstated VAM-10." Additional Comments; # Obverse also paired with 1878-S VAM-65, 1878-S VAM-100, & 1878-S VAM-109. (Order of production: 109, 100, 65, & 10) # VAM-87 was eliminated as part of the 2016 revision.
