Description

1878 WDDO-007 is a doubled die obverse on the 1878 8 Tail Feathers Morgan dollar, cataloged by the Wexler team. LIBERTY is doubled counterclockwise (CCW). Every star on both sides is doubled, and the first four on the left are tripled. The date's 1 is doubled at its top right and along its left side from under the crossbar to the base, and the 7 shows doubling on top of its crossbar and lightly on the crossbar's left side. On the obverse, a small crack runs NE from the top left of LIBERTY's E to a leaf, and a crack runs WNW from under the 1's crossbar to the base of the neck. Polish marks show in the low area of the cap fold, NE of the cotton bolls. Wexler notes no reverse markers. Richard M. Prouty submitted the variety, with photos by Frank M. Zapushek. Its VAM number is 16.
