Seated Liberty Twenty Cents 1875-1878
Coin Series
About This Series
The shortest-lived regular-issue denomination in U.S. coinage, lasting only four years. The coin's similarity in size to the quarter dollar caused widespread confusion and led to its quick demise. The 1876-CC, with only 10,000 struck, is a key rarity. The 1877 and 1878 were produced only as proofs. William Barber created the design based on the Seated Liberty motif.
