Draped Bust

About This Coin
A group of 1783-dated Washington tokens and cents featuring a draped bust portrait, produced in the "Washington & Independence" series. The obverse shows Washington in civilian attire with drapery around the shoulders, in contrast to the military uniform seen on the companion Military Bust pieces. Varieties include versions with and without a button on the drapery, as well as later copper and silver restrikes with grained edges. The original coppers were likely struck in England, while the restrikes were produced decades later to meet collector demand. Together with the Military Bust varieties, these form the core of the "Washington & Independence" token series.
