The 1851 Washington Draped Bust Proof Half Penny is filed under Draped Bust in the Washington Pieces (1783-1800) series. These pieces are dated 1783 and read WASHINGTON & INDEPENDENCE around a laureate bust in a Roman mantle; the reverse shows Liberty seated with an olive branch and a staff and cap, with UNITED STATES. Baker lists the draped bust without a button as No. 2 and the one with a button on the drapery as No. 5, and says the pieces dated 1783 came from England and have imaginary portraits. His No. 3, with heavier letters and an engrailed edge in silver and copper, is a reissue that the 2019 Stack's Bowers catalogue dates to about 1860 (Musante GW-107).
